Is there any way to change the screen font of the board, to get more threads on the first page of each forum?  As well as ease of reading, but that is just a side effect of any change.

Other sites have as many as 51 threads that still show up on the front page, and some others as high as 55 or so.  This site has only 25 on the front page, minus the stickies on top.  It's been my experience with this site, that if it is not on the front page (let's say) after a long weekend, it usually becomes a dead thread because I imagine people see it as dead if it is on the second page and don't think it's worth waking up.....and may not even see it at all.

I for one don't usually go to the second page of a forum to see what I missed.  Lazy, I guess.  I figure if it's still on the front page, I'm more prone to thinking it's still a viable thread to answer to, and see about keeping it alive.  Might make the place more active if more threads were to remain on the 1st pages of each forum longer, by maybe changing the screen font to maybe doubling what stays on top.

And of course getting rid of those stickies on top that no one really cares about.

I agree, more threads on the front page would be good.

More threads = more information = slower connection rate due to higher bandwidth being used).

Think Corral.

I hardly think the number of threads on the front page is the reason for the Corral's slowness.   They've got other issues.   Many other sites have 50 or more, and load just fine.

We live in the age of high speed internet.  I doubt 25 more threads on the front page is going to affect the way anything loads here.  Typically, it's been the size of the DB up til now, and Joe has done an excellent job keeping it pruned.

I can change how many threads are displayed on each board "page". I tought 25 was a good number, I'll bump it up to 40. Smiley

In your profile click "look and layout preferences" and at the "Use quick reply on topic display" switch it to "show on by default".  Grin
