I recently put 18x9 Y2k cobra R's on my 92 LX w/275's out back and 235's up front. Well I am rubbing a little bit on the quad shock when I pull into steep driveways. I have heard that some people just flip the shock around so that the skinny side of the shock is near the rim of the wheel/tire and that will give you more clearance. Has anyone here done that? If so, have you had any problems with that? And, what really is the quad shock used for? Do I need it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes just turn them around.   It is VERY common thing to do and does not affect how they work.

They are installed on the car to control the axle and prevent wheel hop due to an inferior suspension design.Smiley

Just flip 'em. It's that easy.

I've been told by numerous people that when you change out the stock control arms for something better you can chuck 'em because they aren't doing much good any more. More of a PITA than a help at that point. The new CA's usually prevent most any wheel hop associated with the s***ty suspension you used to have.

I flipped mine! Haven't had a problem since! I am running 17x9 rims with 275/40's on the rear with 17x9  245/45's on the front.
 Looks sweet!  Shocked I also ordered 1/4" wheel spacers as well from Summit Racing just to be on the safe side. They where only $14 or so.

add on:
  I just laid the car into a tight corner and the tire rubbed the inner fenderwell. I would strongly suggest the 1/4" wheel spacers now! Guess I will go back to driving the VW until they arrive.

Only problem I am having now is that my tires are rubbing the inside of the fender well when the car is laid into a corner. That will be fixed with the installation of the wheel spacers though.

you could hammer the inner fender in a tad bit to take care of the rubbing, that is what i did to mine

If they are hitting the fenders in a turn then a spacer will make that worse by pushing the tire out more.
