What's the word with these? Are the 245/45/17s worth running at the track?

as long as you like doing 5 minute burnouts
they have to be REAL hot to work
ive used nittos and bfgs
if youre using them to daily drive, get the nittos. they wear much better....but arent as sticky
if youre swapping wheels, go bfg drag radials hands down. they wear out real quick....but bite hard as hell

I agree 100% with Pete. I had 275/40/17 on my stock 17x8" '96 Cobra wheels and didn't play the swap tires game. They worked great on the street compared to the stockers.

I agree too. I've got 275/40 17 Nittos on my '98. It's just a toy, but I have had them in the rain, and they're great. With stock suspension(no sway bar), and 4.88's, I pulled high 1.6 low 1.7 60's. If you're going to switch at the track, the BFG's or the M/T's hook harder, but they don't last as long. Hope this helps.

I'll vouche that BFG's don't last for crap on the street. 2 sets in 10,000 miles. I did do quite a few burnouts for fun, but they wear really fast anyways.
Nitto's need massive heat (ie burnout) to start getting sticky. BFG's build up heat just hitting pavement, so they're sticky after 10 minutes of driving. You can understand why the BFG's wear faster if you can grasp that concept.

What about the MT ET DRs, I think they hook better than the BFGs.

They're made of the same soft compound that BFG's are made of, and don't last any longer. From the reviews I've read, they actually wear out faster than BFG's.

If they're made of the same compound, they'll wear the same.

BFG's have some tread design to them though which needs to be worn away before they reach their full potential. Mickey's are not like that. They come out of the box ready to be abused.

I daily drove my BFG's. It's been proven time and time again, and you're probably going to agree, that street driving wears out BFG's faster than track use. I remember reading articles in MM&FF where guys were running BFG's on their feature cars and had 100-150+ track passes and the tires still had tread. Hard lesson learned, but I'll never own BFG's for a street car. It's not worth the money you waste to cruise on them.

But as much as I drive the car, it really didn't matter.

Yeah, the 555Rs work great for my 89 with about 330rwhp. My good friend though can blow them away in second, and into 3rd. I guess his extra 110rwhp over me helps huh?
