I found an average sized nail in my tire the other day and was wondering what I should do. Luckily, air isn't leaking out so that's good. I can't recall if the nail is in treads or not, but I check it out again if it's important to know.
So what should I do? Attempt to fix it myself, get a tire shop to fix, or say screw it and do nothing about it?

Wrap duct tape around the tire so the nail can't fly out and then go to the tire store and get it fixed.

If there is a Discount Tire in your area they generally will do it for free. As long as it's not very near the sidewall they should be able to repair it.

And you bought the tire from them. Wrap duct tape around the tire so the nail can't fly out and then go to the tire store and get it fixed.

I like the duct tape answer! It fixes everything! It depends where the nail is, like Chris said. If in or near the sidewall, pray you bought roadhazard insurance. If in the tread, take it to a shop and have them plug AND patch it. Also, make sure you don't drive around on it with low air (if it is leaking), as that could destroy the tire.

Just beware of discount. There is high probability they will f*** your wheel up. BUT if they do, they will buy you a new one. Discount has fixed three holes on pissant BBS dubs for free even disclosing to them the first time that I bought those wheels and tires from someone else. Hell they still loaded the cars info into the whopper computer.

I had to have all 4 tires replaced not to long ago (whenever it was that I went to GA to visit Cara while she was there) because of having a few nails PER tire. Last month I went in again for something else and they checked my tires and found yet another nail, but luckily this time around it was a part of a nail and didn't go all the way in so they removed the piece without an issue.

Well I know for sure it's not on the sidewall, so it's either directly in the tread or right next to it. Of course, when I went out to check where the nail is, I didn't see it. That means that the 5% of the tires surface that's on the ground, that 5% contains the nail. Of course.
Anyone know the approx cost for someone to plug and patch the tire?

Doh, no Discount Tires nearby here. Any other store recommendations that might do it for free? If not, I'll just stop at Goodyear, or whatever is closest.

I couldn't take my car in today because my car is on stands. I borrowed my moms car and picked up myself a wheel stud because mine stripped while rotating my tires. That's when I noticed the nail.

No idea. The lug nut was on there pretty good and it took a lotta strength to finally break it loose. And instead of gradually getting easier to turn when taking it off, it was still hard as crap every single turn. When I finally got it off, I popped the wheel off and noticed a section of the studs treads completely gone.
I picked up a new stud and replacing it should be cake, as I'm told. Hammer the old one out, stick the new stud in through the hub, then screw on a lug nut. Finally, use an impact gun to "bring" the new stud all the way into the hub. Is that right?

Yeah, pretty much. See if there is a Tire Kingdom near you. They should do the flat repair for free just like Discount if I'm not mistaken.
