I'd probably go new turbo and gate, have my buddy plumb it (he's a stainless welder/fab guy), and use some of my existing pile of parts for MAF's and injectors and such.
BTW, this car is original with an A9L. Bought it from the first owner who never opened it up and this 1992 has an A9L, which until now I had believed only came in the '89 GT.
Sweet.

I'm looking to add some ass to a basically stock looking/driving car. The best benefit to this coupe is the fact that it's virgin, and I want it to be sleeperish, ya know?
Turbos are definitely the unit of choice... Can you turbo for close to the price that it costs to charge? I have a close friend who is willing to plumb it if I get the unit.
Ralph, you can pick up a turbo for the size you need for way under a grand...even go twins if you want! If you got a buddy who will help you plumb it then you are all set! Look in the turbomustangs.com classifieds for all the turbos, intercoolers, and every other related part you'd need, as well as their JYTT forum for ideas. The piping will be very cheap.

Actually piping is free for me, he gets stainless for nothing in scrap lengths!
I'll go check that out... It's the best power adder there is, runs coolest as far as intake temp goes, and produces great results. I've done my research and I'm sure that's the BEST method, now if I can make it the CHEAPEST method I'll be great.
The only thing I was thinking of SC for was the easily-removable-no-fabbing-required angle. And that may still come into play depending on my plans.

Well, if he's going to help do the fabbing too, then what's the problem. I think if you went the JYTT route, you'd have a much higher level of satisfaction afterwards. Plus you don't have that stupid blower pulling on the side of your crankshaft. Plust turbo's just sound evil. Don't forget about water/methanol injection, very cheap too and helps against detonation...worth a good handful of power too. Whoever thought you'd get horsepower from windshield washer fluid!

Yeah that injection thing is nuts lol.
I feel like such a retard when looking at turbos though... When looking at SC's it's like 'kit for fox body' and I KNOW that will work. Turbos don't work like that...

Exhaust goes into the square hole on the turbine side, exhaust comes out the hole in the center, to your current H-pipe. Air filter and tubing goes to the big hole on the front/center of the compressor on the turbo, then out the snail looking part into the intercooler, then out the other side of that up to your intake. It's simple. I know what you mean. That's the beauty of it. People pull some turbo's out of a JY off a Dodge turbo-car, and it doesn't matter, turbo's are turbo's. Intercoolers don't care what kind of car they're on either.

THat's a TT setup. Single big turbo setup is scarier.

Yep. Just saying, it doesn't matter where you get the s*** from.
Then again with a stock bottom end you aren't going to be putting a T-76 on it either.

A T-76 can support 950 fwhp (flywheel) It's the largest T-4 framed turbo there is before you step up to the next level... Here's your steps: 1. Go to TM.com and look around in the JYTT forum, read the stickies 2. Figure out what power level they say will be safe, and what a good matching turbo will be 3. Go to their classifieds or Corral classifieds and find a turbo that fits in that range that you can get a good deal on 4. Buy an air-air intercooler that will fit in the front of your car 5. Figure else what other little suff you need (bypass/BOV, wastegate, vac lines, oil return/feed lines, boost gauge etc.) 6. Make it work!

I'm at TM right now, feeling around. I'm just scared to buy a pile of parts that aren't quite right or to butcher this virgin car for a less-than-perfect setup.

I feel your pain. That's why I bought a rolling chassis...it can't get any worse than it already is I'm sure I don't need to tell you, but 'search' around the site and you'll find everything you want to know. Look at the top of the site at the knowledge base and FAQ too. If you like reading, there's a book called "Maximum Boost" by Corky Bell.

MAFs and blow off valves don't work together. Yes they do...it has to be a recirculating valve like the stock one on my car. Last time I checked this is not a subaru forum. Also a recirculating valve is a BYPASS valve and not a blow off valve. Blow off valves vent to atmosphere.

I know that in the long run a turbo would make me happier, but the fact that I'm trying to not butcher this virgin and I'd like a bolt-on-bolt-off application really should be steering me to a charger.

If you want sleeperish then use the Novi. It is by far more quiet then the vortech stuff, even SQ.
You can get 14psi out of a 1k if you ever want to in the future.

Pretty reasonably priced even compared to Vortech, too, aren't they?
Superchargers4less.com has a killer deal on the low-output Vortech... I'm waiting on a number back for the Novi 1k kit.

dont let em get you down...on another forum i go to there are people running turbos in their 88 accords...all custom...even one running 10's (full drag though). Some of em even have the 1.6 vtec motors in these cars...anything can be done...if you want to turbo..go for it..just take your time...and do it right. Just remember cutting corners now is gonna be a lotta headaches later

*cough*kennebell*cough*
Whatever you do.........DO NOT get a Kenne Bell. Not only is their customer support absolutely bottom of the barrel but their products are very poorly made. PM Blown99GT and ask him what he thinks of Kenne Bell. He won't have anything good to say about them either. 9 months after my last rebuild my unit is already blowing gear oil past the seals and on to my belt. I'm considering rebuilding it again (this will be my 5th rebuild in 8 years) and selling it for a blower whose company has their s*** together. I know very few people who have been happy with KB recently....it's really too bad, they used to be a great company who took care of their customers but now that they're Mr. Big Shot they could care less about those of us who've sent thousands of dollars of business their way. I'd love to say that it's their loss and not mine but I've wasted thousands of dollars in rebuilds so I've lost plenty.

Also a recirculating valve is a BYPASS valve and not a blow off valve. Blow off valves vent to atmosphere.
Blow off and bypass valves do the same thing, just different names. The blow off valve can either vent to atmosphere or recirculate.
