The point there is that an 800rwhp automatic turbo car is a mid to high 8 second car.

An 800rwhp turbo stick car is a high 9 to low eleven second car. 

Granted, there is a difference in loss in the drivetrain to accout for, but regardless of that, it'll be the difference of almost a full second 1/4 mile (not to mention not busting the center out of the clutch).

Yeah, but I do not mind giving up 1 sec to drive a stick.  Even now I am giving that up. (time wise)......So, what your are saying is I can switch to an auto and run 8's eventhough my car still has all factory options and is still darn near 3800 lbs

I'm a stick guy, and even I don't understand the fascination some people have between running a turbo with a stick. 

I just don't get it.

I helped my buddy build a turbo car a few years ago. The fastest we could get it was 7.20's in the 1/8th with the stock t-5. We stuck a c-4 in it and got it down to a best of 6.39. It was fun to drive with the stick, though. Grin

Turbos and manual trannies just don't work well together.

with a blower, ir you shift and the engine lands at 4000rpm, you are making 4000rpm worth of boost.  If you shift a turbo car, and it lands at 4,000 rpm, but the turbo lost 50% of its velocity then you gotta wait for the turbo to spool back up.

It all goes back to load. 

You can't load a turbo car with a manual tranny without a two step, and even then it doesn't do it as well as a automatic. 

Furthermore, the gear spacing is wrong.  Turbo's like to SSSSSPPPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL for a long, long time, hence the reasons people use very little gear (3.27's) and 2 speed trannies.  If you don't change gears, the turbo can make more power.

I'm a big fan of manual transmissions, but in my opinion, as auto is just as much fun.  I had the fun of playing around with a friends H/C/I auto car that had a shift kit and stall.  It was fun to just mash the gas whenever you wanted and be thrown back in the seat.  No having to worry about what gear to put it in, etc.

That's pretty similar to the setup we initially ran in Alan Kennedy's car. With a "odds-n-ends from around the shop" stock block 306 and a C4 it went 5.90s in the 1/8 mile in a 2000 GT body.





Mind you, this was before we took the kit back apart and HPC coated the hot side.
