... get a tiny piece of press fit plastic out of another piece of plastic? I tried a screwdriver and pliers, but no luck. Here is a pic... This is a little tiny piece that goes in the little diaphragm assembly in my SC bypass here... I can either pull out the broken piece and pay a few bucks for the new little part or pay a couple hundred bucks for a new diaphragm assembly.

Drill the center out till the wall thickness is rather thin, collapse what's left.

That's a great idea! I have no idea why I didn't think of that! Zak- what is easy out? Thanks for the quick reply, guys!

I'll take this one. Easy out is a wonderful thing from craftsman that is a reverse drill that goes in till it catches on metal nad backs it right otu...
Very nice for pulling screws with stripped heads that people try to monkey with out of guns

Easy outs are for broken screws. They have a left-hand corkscrew type thread on the end. You drill into the broken screw, then use the left-hand counter rotation to simultaneously bore into and extract the screw.
They might help for this by getting the inner piece rotating, but I'm thinking just weakening it and crushing it would be easiest.

Oh yeah--it's plastic--the right amount of heat might do the trick too.

Sweet! Thanks Brad and Ralph! I've actually used one of those before, but I didn't know the name of it. Time to get one for myself!

The real name is usually 'screw extractor', that's what the normal parts-store variety usually is labeled as. It's only Craftsman that actually named them after the common name, easy-out.

Okay, that makes sense... I have definitely heard screw extractor before. I don't know the Craftsman name because I do most of my tool shopping at Harbor Freight, because that's about all I can afford right now.

Yes, sir. They put it in a really crappy place- when you put the SC on a flat surface when tou have it off the engine, it rests on the vacuum port.

We have a local surplus place called Worth Smith that carries EVERYTHING under the sun. They've got all that harbor frieght type stuff without having to order lol.
But yeah, that's the trade name for it.

There's a Harbor Freight 5 minutes away from my work, so I'm a bit spoiled. I buy one... if it breaks, I buy another, and I'm still way under the cost of a Craftsman.

If that was my KB bypass I would tap that plastic to NPT threads and put in a new brass or steel AN vacuum fitting. Problem solved. A helluva lot easier then trying to get out a piece of plastic that may not come out.

no tools but pliers needed

I got it out... but... I'm glad I didn't drill it out- there was a piece inside of the diaphragm end that stuck out. Here's a pic. What I did was to start a self-tapping screw into the plastic, and then put the screw in a vice and pulled that sucker out. Exactly what Pete said- I just read his post, lol.
