I think I understand but the crappy drawing could help, lol.

And where do I go to purchase a new one?  Autozone or some s*** like that?  Is there any one brand to get or are the just universal?

Your local speed shop will have it. They are aftermarket pieces. It's not a replacement part that Autozone or anyone would carry. I have never heard of a brand for them. I got mine through Livernois Motorsports, they're only about 5 miles from my house so I just drove up there and got the one I wanted. What gears are you picking? If you can't find a shop, I'll swing by and pick up a speedo gear if you want.

What do you mean what gears?  Are you talking about the speedo gear or gears like 3.73, 4.10, etc.

If it's the first one, what kind do I need?
The nearest speed shop is a good while from me.  Do they sell them online?

Well right now, I'm using the stock gears but I'm still debating between 3.73's and 3.55's.

So your bascially saying that this won't get fixed until I make up my mind, right?

Would something like this work?

If you're gonna go with 3.73's, you might need the white. 3.55's might require something different depending on your transmission.

Changing the speedo gear won't fix your problem. Your speedo is f***ed, not the cable or the gear.

Ok, just the whole gear itself in the tranmission, correct?  That's what is causing my problem?
And when I swap out rear end gears, I change the speedo gear (or is that cable?) from the dash so the new gears will read correctly.....right?

It's late, I'm trying to absorb this, lol.

No. Your speedometer, the one that you stare at when driving, is what is f***ed.

When you swap out rear end gears, you change the speedo gear that goes into the trans to correct your dash speedo reading.

My speedometer is f***ed?  Even though it works?  Does that control the odometer and trip odometer?  Is that why it's f***ed?

Something, and I can't say what, is broken in your speedometer. The speedo needle moves and is accurate, from what you have told us. But the trip and odometer aren't working. Something in the whole assembly is broken loose from the assembly letting the needle show your speed but not racking up miles.

You can do two things.

1 - Get a new speedo.

2 - Drive the car until you're ready to sell it and consider this a blessing. You can rack up miles and it won't show. LOL

or you could buy a 5 inch autometer tach, and call it a day,,, but i guess that still don't help you out with the odometer

I would like to see what I can find sometime this week.  Anyone got a link to how you take out the cluster?  for some reason, removing interior stuff scares me, lol.

And how do you think I'm supposed to take the headlight switch off?

Alright guys, since the semseter is over this week, I have three days off in a row each week to get stuff down.  Besides the Christmas decorations, I want to tackle this.

I found the page for my car but my question is what do I need?  Main drive gear?  Worm gear?

We don't know what's broken, You'll have to take the speedometer apart and see why it doesn't roll over the odometer. There's no electricity, just a little gear set, so it will be obvious enough (after you spend all of those 3 days getting the instrument panel apart).

FYI- I swapped my speedo gear out with no jack (stock ride height).  I just shimmied under there, disconnected, swapped, and voila!

Nope.  And I don't know why. LOL

Probably because since my speedo is still off from the gear change, I've heard the miles might rack up faster if I don't have an accurate speed reading.  Yes, you heard right, my speedo is still off from the gear swap that occurred at least 2 years ago. LOL

So....since I was planning on replacing the clutch, tob, all that s*** in the future, I might as well throw in a new drive gear which will guarantee the perfect speedo reading without having to deal with the white speedo gear that gives a not so perfect reading.  Anyone know exactly where this drive gear is located?  THEN after that, fix the odometer.  Sounds like a plan but then again, this has been like 2 or 3 years in the making.

I think it's pretty apparent I've been really, really, really, really lazy about this. LOL

Hmmm...

Think I might just do that.  The hell with a 1 or 2 mph difference.  If I can make it 2 years plus having like 10mph off, I can manage that.  Plus, I don't even know how much the correct drive gear would cost.  A hell of a lot more than the white speedo gear me thinks.
