Thanks to David Claflin I have been drawn into the tuning side of things using the Moates.net burn1. This started out very simple, I had a problem with my mustang running when the engine was cold and David suggested that I buy a burn1 chip and he would help me tune my mustang. During that process I learned a lot but mostly I gained the "want" to tune my mustang myself. At the time I was hard up for cash and I didn't want to buy a chip burner and David said Moates.net was working on a new chip that did data logging so I ended up waiting for it to be released. Waiting for this new chip with datalogging was a very good choice. In February, 2009 Moates.net release the QuarterHorse with REAL TIME datalogging and tuning! From the Moates.net website: The Quarterhorse provides absolute, bumpless, 100% realtime tuning AND realtime datalogging for all EEC-IV and EEC-V through 2004. It plugs into the J3 port like a chip, but its capabilities are stunning.
You can change ANY parameter while the vehicle is running without disturbing operation. You can log ANY parameter in RAM from the EEC-IV and V at sample rates well over 2,000 frames per second through the same mini USB cable (no OBD cable needed).
Simultaneous ultra-high-speed rigorous datalogging capabilities are closely-coupled with the realtime-emulation / tuning-on-the-fly for the ultimate tuning experience.
So needless to say, I bought one of these bad boys and today I installed it. I've been playing with the real time tuning and it's awesome. I've setup my injectors, maf, etc and it's very easy to use. I'm currently using a piece of software called Bin Editor to tune it in real time. I've also learned you and use a free program called EEC Editor. There is a full write up on how to used it with the QuarterHorse found here. I'm still playing around with everything and I plan on posting more information into this thread. Free free to ask questions or post comments here (expressly users that have used the QuarterHorse).

I've hit a snag in my tuning/datalogging project. I'm currently getting an error: "QHorse: Failed Building Payload" everytime I try starting the data logging. I have searched a few places (google, eectuning.org (I've tried to register but I'm waiting on approval)) with no success. I've also read a thread on eectuning.org about putting ferrite beads on the usb cable, I have installed the provided ferrite beads and still no success. I've emailed moates.net and I'm waiting on their reply. I'll keep you guys updated.

I recieved an email from moates.net shorty after I emailed them and they asked me to try using the free ECC Editor program from their website. This will help them troubleshoot if it's an software or hardware issue. I was going to test it over the weekend but I ended up helping a friend move into their new house. Plus it snowed yesterday and today. Maybe tomorrow or sometime this week. I'll keep you guys updated.

Well, Today the weather was nice and I had time to play with the QuarerHorse again.........and I have successfully data logged for the first time! I had to download the EECEditor program and configure it for data logging and everything started working. I don't know if it was just a glitch or what but everything is working correctly now. Now that is out of the way I can start tunning and logging! The EECEditor program works and it's free but it's nowhere near the sweetness of Bin editor (Easy of setup (minus my glitch), more features, etc). Now I'm going to review these logs I created and see if I can't tune this thing a bit more. David, have you had a chance to install yours yet? Did you have any issues? What have you done with the results from the data log?

Once this semester is over in a couple more weeks I'll get it in. One thing been stopping me, is my laptop I use for tuning has a serial port and it is com1, the USB port that QH hooks into isn't numbered, so not 100% sure I'll be able to download a tune to it.

The QH USB driver creates a virtual COM port and you shouldn't have a problem. Mine created COM4 and the both programs detected the QH with out any configuration.

That's good, I couldn't change the numbering on the serial port or get the USB port to become a numbered port so was wondering if it would work, or if I'd have to buy a EA license for my newer laptop so I could download tunes to it.

I've got it installed, just need to do the tune in BE, plug the processor into the car and see what happens.
Did they ever authorize your account at eectuning?

You might have to email them again. I put my QH in, but the software is not seeing it. I may have buy a license BE and EA for the other laptop if I can't get this one to work. Tonight I'll email Clint and see what he suggests, it ought to work I would think.

How is it going for you with this? I did an FTDI driver scrub and reloaded all new drivers on my laptop last nigth and it I was able to load a tune with it. Tonight when I get home I'll stick it in the processor and see if it works.

It works, damn good too I'd say. Loaded all of the parameters from my tune that I used in EEC tuner into BE and loaded that tune into the quarterhorse, seems to run even better then it did before.
Joe are you going to keep that chip you bought awhile back? If you're interested in selling it let me know.

Now that I got the QH I don't really need the chip. You can PM me if you want. I've been playing with this a lot and I really like it. I'm finding out a little more each time I mess with it. I think everyone that mods their mustang should have one of these, they are simply awesome.

If a vehicle is featured heavily in a legendary movie or television show, it could make that car famous. Sometimes about as famous as every little thing else in the movie or show. Cars can be stars. An automobile exactly like the one within the famous show is a star in its very own right at times. These automobiles may hold good value over the years. Granted, it's often because of "product placement," however still.
