Now that I've gone back to EFI, I'm thinking about buying a Pro-M Performance Improvement Harness. That's what I had planned for a few years ago, but I did things in a crazy way and never got around to it. Anything I should know first? I heard I should stick with a used Gen 1. Advice?

Michelle, do you still have all your old wires and such?  If not, a friend of mine just completed his new 93 project car, and he has everything.

Ok, the Gen 1 harness costs an assload and I mean an ASSLOAD more, but it is a direct plug-in harness that doesn't affect your existing pinouts.  THERE IS A LOT MORE TO TRY TO SQUEEZE INTO A SMALL PLACE THOUGH.  Getting the trim panel back on and the EEC back in is a real pain in the ass.

The 2nd gen requires some splicing and re-routing of wires.  If you have a pinout tool, you can simply juggle the pinouts around in the connector to achieve the needed config.  You only have to do a side-splice connect or remove a bit of insulation on a couple wires then.

I recommend you get the ford EEC bible from Probst and have it around before you do anything.  That can guide you to take care of many of the changes before even using the PIH.  Actually, with the probst book and a BAP and fan controller, you don't NEED either harness.  It can all be done without the supplied wiring.

Many users of the PIH will say that they would go with a twEECer or EEC-tuner if given a second chance.  I stand happy with my A9L conversion, but the tunability of using a tuner isn't there.  The learning curve is shallower to rewire an EEC than to use a tuner, but the tuner gives you all the power that is available in the A9L plus a lot more flexibility.

Matter of choice.  I'd buy the gen II and then refer to probst and change pinouts before dumping all that extra cash on the 1st gen.

I did the gen 2 on my car so if you have any more questions feel free to ask.  If I'm not banned by then.

Ok, I'm following you so far. I realize this is gonna sound real dumb, but if I go with the PIH/A9L, will it in any way affect a future dynotune/chip?

Nah you can still dyno it and chip it, just they'll have to realize they're working with an '89 EEC and not a W4H0 or TM40.

TM40

I used to believe the T4M0 was the devil............LOL. I now know they're just touchy, but I's still prefer the A9L/A9P/A3M.
