Steve's thread got me thinking, what IS the best street exhaust?? 5.0 or 4.6?

I like a tuned sound, not all tinney, but not too loud either.
I really hate the botched sound of straight pipes (read redneck chev 1/2 ton).  Crazy

Do long tube headers really gain much? X-pipes?

I run 1 5/8"ceramic shorty headers, with a bassani X (gutted cats) and delta flow Flowmasters with LX tailpipes- all 2 1/2".
It sounds really really good. Too much drone around 2000rpm tho.
I liked it better when the cats were intact, but what do ya do?? Beef

So what do ya run?
How ya like it?

After I'm done with my "winter project" I'll be running shorty headers with x-pipe and flowmaster muflers. This should give me the tone that I want and give me better flow the the s***ty stock setup.

Right now the Mustang has a cheap dual turbo exhaust system attached to stock manifolds. It's not bad but could be much better. I'll be taking the car to an exhaust shop in my area where I have had several vehicles done. I'll be putting long headers on it and let the shop make up the rest. They are incredible and the price CANNOT be beat, even doing it yourself.

I have an F-150 with the 4.9L inline 300 Cu. In. 6 cylinder. It has dual pipes going to the cat and then a 3 inch pipe going to a Vortec muffler and then twin 2 1/2" tailpipes out the back. When I start it and rev it no one can believe it is a 6 cylinder, it's mean as hell.

The Vortec would be too loud on the Mustang because of no cats. Probably go with Flowmasters but still researching this too.

I hope my new exhaust setup gets rid of the stock 2k rpm drone....

I'm running a Flowtech Stinger system (same as the Warlock) with Mac 1 5/8" long tube headers and an off road h. There isn't any of the "dreaded drone", either. My favorite exhaust was the Borla s/s side exhaust. I gave it to Jerry, and I'm hoping he'll decide to give it back to me someday.  Evil

I ran bbk longtubes, bbk offroad h-pipe, and two chamber flowmasters with no tailpipes or dumps on my '96 cobra. It was loud and it sounded perfect. Really mean and deep. I can't stand the x-pipe + chambered muffler sound personally. X-pipe's sound better with straight through mufflers IMO. H-pipe + chambered muffs.

I get compliments on my exhaust. It's rather simple actually, but it's loud and rumbly.  All I'm running are 2-chamber flomasters and  Mac o/r H-pipes.

No one who hears my car asks me if it's a V6.    Grin

Mac Shorty Headers (Hate'm)
2 1/2" O/R H
2 Chamber 'Flows
No Tailpipes (2 1/2" tails would not clear 7.5" rear)

Drone from 1,000 to 2,000 RPM (worse at 2,000, but noticeable before)

When the car comes back out, I am going with long tubes, catted H or X (unless I make my emissions or find a way around it), different mufflers (not sure which manuf.) and tailpipes since I switching from my 2.73 geared 7.5 (ran 13.84 @ 101.6 with no 60') to a 4.10 geared 8.8.
