I'm sure this will get moved to purgatory, errr, tech but I wanted the exposure Grin

Here's the deal. New Spec stage 1, Ford racing quadrant and firewall adjuster, MM universal cable were all installed.

When I let off the clutch I'm hearing machine-gun fire. Not just just a little knock, but a LOUD knock accompanied by driveline shudder until the the clutch disengages fully. The knock is less pronounced shifting into 2nd and even less into 3rd, then gone completely in 4 and 5.

What the hell? I heard 'chatter' is normal for a Spec but this just seems excessive.

Is the cable adjustable?

The only time I've ever experienced chatter was in first gear, but I never had the car when the clutch was just put in.  If it's going away in the latter gears then you know bolts didn't get mixed up.  Have you tried getting on it a little harder on the start to see if it still does it?  I know mine only did it if I started off like a grandma, and if I remember correctly mine was a stage 2.

Is making any noise when you push it in? Or only when it's being released? There's no way you can get an audio of the noise can you?

Only on the release as it disengages. I'll bring a digicam out in it tomorrow.

youre describing this as a knock

is it in the transmission?

that knock is throwing me off a little. a clutch chatter will be consistent

im wondering if you have an input shaft problem....or maybe your pilot bearing wasnt reinstalled

Hang on, I'm going out to the garage with the digicam. I'll be slipping the clutch a little so you can hear it better....I hope.

That's what I was wondering, is it a mechanical knocking sound or just something you feel? Did the place that put the clutch in drive it at all or did it not make noises right away?

If you turn it up loud enough, you can almost make out what I'm talking about.

Are you talking about the clanking at 17 and 8 seconds? It sounds like something is loose, obviously. Perhaps the bellhousing or trans bolts, when there is torque put to the driveline is when it is most noticeable. Call the shop and tell them to fix it.

That needs to go back to the shop as said, so much for your $100 clutch changeout.  Somethings not right there and it ain't gonna get better.

Sounds like somethings loose. Almost sounds like a bolt rattling around when there's 16 to 15 seconds left in the video. Could be wrong though...

Local speed shop, well, sort of local. Highly recommended on local boards.

Agreed with Andy. If you did it yourself I'd say pull it all out and see what's the dealio but since you paid for a job to be done correctly, you should ensure it gets done correctly.

Can you feel anything through the shifter handle when you hear the noise?? Just thinking perhaps if it was something on the flywheel/clutch plate you might tend to feel it beter then you would if it was the belhousing or trans being loose.

Then it just might be the exhaust hitting something, I thought you meant it came from the trans area.

Ok, now that you mention the exhaust -he DID say that the bolts in the flange were cross-threaded by whomever installed the h-pipe so he had to cut them out. He then replaced the bolts with some kind of hanger found on 05-08 models that consists of two 15mm bolts and quick release.

Way to be thinking, David!
