At least you have somewhat of an idea what might be wrong. I know it's just a matter of getting time to tear into it again.

Alright....
I have SOME free time this week to get more of my car done. It would of been done earlier but I've been completely swarmed with school related s***.
Alright, no on to my first question. I have most of my stock exhaust removed, and will cut the stock tail pipes off so the mufflers can come out when I borrow my neighbors reciprocating saw.
Now my question is this. Can I completely remove the stock exhaust, including the headers and kinda leave the cyclinders open in the mean time while I tackle the tranny? Do you think I could put something in each hole to maybe prevent rust from building? The reason I ask is because the bolts that connect the headers to the rest of the exhaust are a complete b**** to deal with and was wondering if I could just unbolt and headers and slide them down and not have to worry about messing with those bolts at all.
Would that be alright to do or should I look at doing something different?
Thanks all.

I've always removed headers from the top side of the car, I can't imagine you'd have the room to move them down and out with the rest of the exhaust. It's possible, but without looking at your car, I'd have to guess it's not.

I've always just grabbed some newspaper/toiletpaper/etc and shoved it in there just to keep dust/bugs/whatever out.

When I removed my stock h-pipe, I snapped all my collector studs on the stock headers. Perfect time to throw some new headers on there.

All good points, thanks guys.
But I now have another problem. I don't have a reciprocating saw, so I borrowed a cordless one from my neighbor. It's a 18v 1.7Ah made by "Pop" and has the following specs to it. "No Load Speed: 0-2500SPM Stroke Length: 3/4"
Is this a good enough saw to be cutting metal with? The reason I ask is because I tried cutting the tail pipes off so I can yank out my stock mufflers but the farthest I could cut is only just about half way down on one pipe. I tried to cut some more but it just basically dies in place so I'm thinking the battery is already pretty exhausted. And before anyone asks, I tried using two different types of blades, both brand new. The one I've had the most success with is one with very fine sharp blades, which I believe is the right kind for cutting metal. Am I not doing something right or is the saw I'm using not powerful enough to be hacking through metal?
With a problem like this coming up unexpectedly, I WAS going to try to yank off my headers and do as much other exhaust work as I can but it just started to rain. This sucks.

Jack up the body, let the 8.8 hang, and I think you should be able to get the mufflers out to problem. No cutting needed.

Battery powered sawzalls are terrible for cutting metal pipe. You can probably get a plug in one cheap at harbor freight.

It takes a saw with some balls. I have a 24v Rigid and I cut up an entire basketball goal with it a while back. It sounds like you've just got a bum saw.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but just let the rear hang, and you can remove the mufflers in one piece, no buying of a saw is needed.

You are probably going to spend about $100 on a decent recipro saw. I got mine in a kit or I would have purchased a corded one. Check out craigslist in your area or a stop by a local pawn shop and then compare to new if you'd like to save a few bucks.

The cheapy would probably get the job done for you in all honesty. I just prefer to buy quality name brand tools, so I'd go with the DeWalt/Milwaukee
Check Lowes and Home Depot too. They have a ton.

For the small amount of work you'll be doing with it the Chicago Electric will be fine.

So you guys think the Chicago one will be powerful enough?
I made a thread over at the cookie korral asking if it's possible to remove the stock exhaust without cutting off the tail pipes. I'm pretty sure it's required but it never hurts to double check.
If it's required, I'll be stopping over at Harbor Freight and maybe even Lowes/Home Depot to see what kind of sale they got going on.
Thanks again everyone!

http://69.13.120.175/forums/showthread.php?t=429734 I put exhaust on it (took the time to get the stock mufflers off without cutting) but now I am thinking about putting it back on and selling it.
