Now that I got my cold idle problem out of the way, I thought I would fix a minor exhaust leak (right after the x-pipe, connecting to the muffler). Well, I started off just fine unbolting the muffler from the x-pipe and I just happen to shine the light on the pipe right after the muffler...... Oh nice, a rusted out spot, when did that happen... grrr Anyways, this is what I ended up with tonight.

I have a few options, 1) there is a local shop that might be able to fix it, 2) Fix it myself (I always liked this solution), 3) wait till I have the money and replace both side with new. (my headers and x-pipe are newer, this is still stock) What do you guys think? Section one of the options an give details why you picked it, please. btw, what is the pipe called right after the muffler that goes over the rear end? |

Tailpipe, your local NAPA has the listing for the 2 1/2" for LX and GT models, they need to look in their catalogs to find it, they even show up on line.

I thought it was the tailpipe but wasn't sure if it had a special name or anything, It's a bit longer then most.  I checked my napa online and they have the tail pipe for $33, that's not bad at all. I might just pick one up. But at the same time, I'm kinda thinking about replace everything back from the x-pipe. If I did replace everything I would have to wait for the money (maybe this winter) or I could just replace the tail pipe and deal with it later. Hrmmm, what to do, what to do.... |

Make sure you're looking at a 2 1/2 pipe. Without tailpipes it's like dumps, louder and stinkier. Figure what a complete catback will cost through NAPA or from summit, then go from there.

Yeah, I would be inclined at this point to start shopping ebay for a cat back system. Do it once instead of a poorly performing band-aid.

The fit, finish and quality of the kit would surpass most anything you could get locally anyhow. That and mandrel bends and stainless, you ain't gonna get that off the shelf at Napa or any other muffler shop in town. Going local at anything less than a high end performance shop would be a large step down from this kit.

With my current lack of money, I don't think I'll be able to buy anything for at least a few months. Thanks for the information though. I hope to have it ready for the road by summer.
