I've been really thinkin' about this, and I think I'm going to do it. My current cat back system is rusted out, doesn't mount up right to the x-pipe, etc.

After looking around the web for a while I think I have made up my mind about what cat back system I want.

Looks good, priced fair. Do they have a sound clip of it? If you do some digging, you might be able to find one. Ever since people started posting exhaust sounds on the net, I never buy one unless I can hear it before.

Ok, I found a problem. This kit (Flowmaster 17106) it listed as a GT/Cobra kit. I believe (please correct me if I'm wrong) that the cobra exhaust has straight tail pipes and the GT has turn down tail pipes. I have read the "kit installation diagram" and it says "1986 GT USE KIT #17103". WTF?!?!?! I'm I missing something? I guess all in all, I want a kit with the 50 Series Delta Flow - Three Chamber Mufflers".

The kit that is in the link is for a Cobra or LX from the looks of the tail pipes.  The 86 gt's are like the lx's were, they didn't have the ground effects on them.

Looking a JEGS they have the same picture, but you should get the kit you have listed in the 1st post.  The tail pipes are turndowns before the rear bumper.

The link no longer works. Sad That's how I found about about this problem. I went to order it and the link was broken. Both kits 17106 and 17103 both look like the tail pipes are straight and not turn downs.

Update:

I emailed Flowmaster asking about this kit.

Here is my email:
Quote
I have a question about the "1987 - 1993 Ford Mustang GT & Cobra 5.0L"
(17106) kit.

I just wanted to know how well this kit would fit on my 90GT. This kit
as a GT/Cobra kit but the rear exhaust on a GT and cobra are different,
the GT have turn down tail pipes and the Cobra have straight tail pipes.
On your website it looks like the kit has straight pipes. Is there an
option to get the GT kit? I really want this kit, just don't' want to
modify my rear bumper.

Regards,
Joe

Thank you for contacting Flowmaster. Unfortunately, the only option is straight out the back. Further questions reply to this email or call 1-800-544-4761.

My reply back:

Why is the kit listed as a GT/Cobra kit when it will only fit a LX/Cobra? Will Flowmaster be making a GT kit? Flowmaster makes other GT kits with tail pipes that turn down, would it be possible to get that kit with the Force II mufflers?

Thanks,
Joe

Hmmmm..

I got the American Thunder set of Flowbastards on my car and they had the turndowns. I wouldn't see why they would not sell force 2's like that.

Flowmaster's reply:

Thank you for contacting Flowmaster. That kit was designed that way to accommodate both model types. Don't see any plans in the future of building the turn down style in GT's, but you could get some muffler and universal pipe to build a system. Use the dealer locater to find a good shop in your area to help you with the process. Further questions reply to this email or call 1-800-544-4761.
