Just for jun, I have been going on country streets with no traffic and practicing launching. I would rev up to 3-4k and pop the cluch. (after heating up the tires) I don't know if this is the correct way but it doesn't hurt to try, does it? Anyways, I've noticed a few things that I don't think are right.

1) The back end likes to hop around when launching. Is this because the tires are grabbing the road? If this is a problem what can I do to fix it?

2) The motor doesn't seem to handle the launch like I think it should. The RPM's drop like a motor and it seems kinda bogged down.

Maybe I'm trying to get too much out of my current setup? I just thought it would be a little more kick off the line.

Oh yea, last night right before bed, (sometimes things just hit me right before I pass out) I remember last year when I tossed on my fuel regulator that I put the fuel around 38psi at idle (with the vacuum line off). I set the fuel pressure there because I believe the car is running a bit rich with the 24# injectors (I know this isn't the best way to fix the problem, but it was a quick fix and I just forgot about it until last night). Do you think this could be my problem?

I could toss on the 19# injectors (and MAF tube), toss the fuel pressure to 40psi and see.... hrmmmm I need your guys thoughts. Grin

Any input?

I haven't had a chance yet to test my theory yet...

Another thought is I still have the stock gears in the stang. I should have the set of 3.73's installed soon.

I'm not sure that dumping the clutch at 4k is good for any car....as for wheel hop, how many ford have you owned Grin a ton of them are known for this and I can't recall what exactly the cure is, need a suspension expert. What gears are you running?

How would you do a correct launch?

Yeah I hit submit and closed the window...right as I saw that, my bad. That gear swap is going to make a world of difference.

As for launching, I guess I'm not sure. I haven't done any real "racing" so I don't know how the pro's do it. When I use to just goof off though, I'd keep the clutch right about at the grab point then release it the rest of the way and floor it at the same time. Like i said, I'm not really in to the racing thing so I couldn't tell ya how it's suppose to be done. Just sounds pretty harmfull to the torque boxes (if not reinforced) and to the stock rear end.

You didn't mention what tires are on it.  Either way, you'll never get a great 60' with stock gears.  The best thing to do, if you don't want to wait for the gears, is don't drop the clutch.  Slip it a little.  This will keep engine speed up, and wheel spin down.  I've pulled low 1.9's w/ stock tires, and consistant low 1.7's w Nittos.

I think I know what your saying about slippin' the cluch a little. I'll keep working on it. Smiley

Yea, I've never done it before and didn't think about that. Sad

Btw, I'm calling around getting pricing about getting the gears installed. Grin

39 PSI no vacuum is where it is supposed to be. Even if you raise or lower pressure the car will adapt to it anyway, except for WOT.
