Is this a chip that you can reprogram yourself? Or is it something you keep plugged in all the time?

What else have you done to your 96GT that would benefit from this?

the PCM of the 96 and new mustangs are programmable, this can change some of the setting of the motor, unlike your computer in your 5.0 this isn't a chip its  programmer it can set speed limiters rpm limiters i think i can advance the timing a bit to get a little more hp out of it.  I'll let you know more about it when it arrives.  Oh i will be using this on our school's chassis dyno so i can tell the gains.  It might help out with the Headers that are installed on my mustang.  Like i said i'll let you know what it can do. oh yeah it can also read DTCs.

Well bad new our school's Dy no couldn't get a steady reading of the car the wave form was sporadic so I'm doing the seat of the pants test, and yes i do notice a bit of a difference with the programmer. But the good news is that the car didn't detonate as bad as it did last year, it did it once after the programming but that was cause the computer was relearning all the info.  I know that the vehicle made last year 208 at the wheels detonating and that i know at least that is making over 208 HP, sorry i didn't get this info sooner.  the Car runs great still.
