Thanks to Dan's thread I ran the car on test mode and the code it gave back was 5284 which is a faulty oil pressure switch and the OIL pressure read 000 even while running.  How do I fix this and does it mean diddly-swat to how the car is running?

You fix it by replacing the oil sensor OR the faulty line/reference voltage going to or from it.

Does it mean anything?  No, unless somehow you've lost reference voltage from one of the outs on your EEC.

WHICH, come to think of it, since you've got an electronically controlled transmission, could be causing a hell of a problem with anything that's working off that reference voltage spade.

Hrm...

I think you need to get under the hood, get to the oil pressure switch, and see if you've got the 5v reference going into it.

yep....my thoughts exactly.  after some internet searching, apparently some folks have gotten that code after messing with the throttle body which I did about a month ago.

i know autozone will pull the codes for free but do they lend scan tools as well?  I want to see if my oil pressure is normal when running wide open.  i've been leaking oil from a spot on the timing chain cover where a bolt is missing which has been worrying me for a year now

Don't worry about the leak--that wont' affect pressure at all.

The only way to truly test oil pressure is to put a mechanical sender in the place of the electronic one and hook up an old-fashioned mechanical gauge.

I'd hit your local pep boys and see what they'll do.  Don't think you have to worry about your motor though.

I still wonder if your EEC isn't sending the correct reference signal for the TTL sensors.
