I have an 87 GT donor car for a 4 cylinder conversion on a 91 notchback. I was hoping someone may have done this and know what all is involved. I plan to switch from EFI to carb, do i need to add a mechanical fuel pump, do i need to do anything in the tank or to the lines? I think I have to change the radiator also. The GT rearend will also be going in, I plan to use the four cylinder springs in the back. I want to find a C-4 auto, how do i know which models will bolt up to my 302, also what size converter should i use for a mild motor? What about the brake system ( master cylinder, booster, lines, etc..)? I am also curious about how the guys in the magazines clean up under the hood, only leaving whats necessary, how do you know what can go and what can stay?

You can run the electric pump but you'll need to run a return line to the tank.

I've seen people run the 4cyl radiator - I would upgrade, just steal one out of a JY.

Will add more later.

Thank you for responding, is the four cylinder fuel pump the same size as the 8 cylinder pump? Is there a return line on an EFI V-8 car, if so i"ll transfer from the GT to the LX.

Same size pump but nah, it doesn't run a return line on the stock fuel system.

I'm not an expert on stall speeds, auto hater  Grin, but I'd say 2200 would be a good bet for a mild build. Hopefully some more technical fellas chime in for ya on this one.

the c4 is a great piece to use if u can find a large bell housing as appose to a small. the large bell will fit the factory 164t flywheel but the small requires a 158t fly wheel. of course this is only an issue depending on what balance 302 that you use, 50oz or 28oz because u can get a fw for either in 28oz but im not sure about the 50oz. the way to tell the diff on big or small bell is to look at the top starter bolt and the first dowl or bolt hole, the big bell is about 1 3/4" apart the small is only 1 1/8" apart or 2 fingers  or 1 finger apart. the tank issue is easy get a sending unit for a 79 mustang 5.0 and use a mech pump or low pressure external pump. the converter really depends on the rpm range of the motor and the cam u r using 2,000 to 3,000 should be good mild street conv. any other converter, or trans Qs please ask i work in the converter shop at Coan eng.
