What a terrible, terrible thing to happen. First and foremost to the friends and families of those slain, but also to everyone else who has to bear the grunt of whatever regulations, rules, or decisions come to affect how colleges operate.

This was the worst place for a shooting to happen. You're there to get an education, a real education outside of high school. It's appropriate to be care-free and enjoy the weather. Skipping class is a fantastic idea in moderation. You learn how to manage time. What classes to skip. Who not to have sex with. When it's a good time to drink beer or urinate in public. How not to get caught cheating. Why your accounting buddies have to stay in studying for finals while you're getting blasted. NOT worry about some a****** shooting thirty-f***ing-some odd students.

I feel terrible about this. What happens now? Do schools do nothing and run the risk of a repeat happening? Would preventative measures work to ensure this doesn't happen? Is some other douche going to attempt a repeat?

Colleges are f***ed, plain and simple. No matter what they do, they'll be subjected to the overextended, uneccesarily authorative views of the common (media and the public), taking criticism all the way about how someone else would've handled the situation, or what steps should've taken place. All because of one f***ing a******. One f***ing a******. Now we're stuck asking why. Or how.

And there's no good reason. Yet we get to bear the consequences of that f***ing a******'s decision.

What's your take on this?

Well Phil, what I think will happen and what I think should happen are two entirely different things.

I think campuses will look a lot more like jails in the very near future and I believe tuition will go up at an even more alarming rate to pay for a police force that will rival or be bigger than what you would see in similar towns with similar populations.  I think there will be a bunch of anti gun legislation railroaded through in record time.

What I think should happen is that CCW holders should be allowed to carry on campus and there should be a lot more scrutiny placed on out of the country student visas etc.  I don't particularly care for the fact that the world seems to ship a huge amount of students / foriegn nationals here that don't seem to be accountable to anyone here.  I know someone at the Embassy in Korea right now and he said they processed a half million visas to the US alone last year.  He couldn't give the breakdown, but with it being that many, you know the checks and safeguards aren't in place.  We are going to have to get a lot more like Israel if we ever hope to survive and be even relatively safe in our own country.

I'm with Chris. It's not just colleges, or high schools, or malls...it's any where a large group of people will be that you have to worry about. If more good, law abiding citizens were allowed to carry their firearms into more places and be more open about it I'm almost positive the number of violent crimes would drop.

Yup!

Over the years I have been amazed at the number of CCW stories I have heard where horrific situations were dulled somewhat by responsible carriers being able to effectively respond to a given threat. It's exactly the reason I became a carrier.
