One of my brakes was making a hideous sound and it turns out the caliper pin in the mounting bracket seized and wore the outer pad down to nothing.  Then it ate my rotor.

Fortunately, this is my Acura, which I intend to essentially scrap next year.

Got some new pads, got some new rubber dust covers for the caliper pins and dremeled off a lot of rust and brake debris.  Lubed it up and put it all back together.  I think I can get along just fine with only 3 functional rotors.  Grin

Oddly enough, on the new pads the outer one doesn't have the nubbin for the shim.  I stuck the shim on there anyway but it move a bit.

Oh, and of course everything was rusted solid and stuck together.  It took me a hell of a lot longer than it should have.  I hate Acura brakes.

The rotor shouldn't be too terribly much for that thing, though I know you're not wanting to spend any money on it.  I don't mind disk stuff, but I hate rusty drum stuff.

Speaking of brakes, I need to tear into the 89.  I lost about 70% of my brakes a couple months ago.  At 5mph, I can't lock of the brakes, and come to a sudden stop.  There is ZERO neck snapping ability what so ever.

A couple days ago, my husband replaced the rear caliper and brake pads on the passenger rear wheel of my car.  Thankfully I was still at work when he did it because from what I understand there was a lot of cussing!

Brakes are cake. Im fixin to give the truck new rotors and pads all the way around with some fresh fluid.

P.S. I realize that by saying how easy they are to do, I just jinxed myself.

Disc brakes all around? That's  one of my next mods. My new axles finally got it and I'm targeting Monday afternoon to do the rear end swap.

Brakes are pie, not cake.

I'm sure you all remember the fun I had with my caliper bolts right? How they would NOT come off? Torching them worked wonders. Now I use fire for anything that gives me trouble.
