Author Topic: Will 1.7 Ford Racing roller rockers bolt right on my stock heads?  (Read 1190 times)

I have a 1989 Mustang Gt and I would like to upgrade to 1.7 Ford Racing Roller Rockers on my stock heads. Would I have to alter anything in any way to get them to fit or will they bolt right on? I am stationed in Germany so sometimes parts take a while to get and I can not just run down to the performance shop to get help or pay someone to do it so any help is appreciated.
Thanks,

They'll bolt right on, just as they would any other cylinder head. For stock heads, make sure you get "pedestal mount". Something else of importance is the condition of your valve springs. If they're old, tired, high mileage, or all of the above, you could sustain valve float in the higher RPMs. If they're in decent shape, bolting the roller rockers on is a snap.........if they're crappy, and not trustable, you may wanna upgrade to something a little better/stronger.

Just make sure the valve covers will still fit afterwards.  I had to make some slight modifications (i.e. B.F.H.) to my stock valve covers to make everything fit after installing my (stud mount) roller rocker arms.

yeah but you have one of those crappy 94-95's Tongue

The 1.7's will bolt right up, and like michelle said, if your springs are worn, change them..  I have 1.7's on my stock heads and I can say it opens it up just a tad, one thing I had to do was removed the baffle from the under side of the pass ide cover, but that's it.  have fun!

Did you all notice any HP increases when you installed the roller rockers? I bought Ford Racing Cobra valve covers as a dress up item to go along with the polished cobra intake that will be going on it.
Man I hate waiting on the mail to come to my APO. It sucks when you have half the parts and waiting on everything else to arrive.

Thanks for all the pointers!!!!

I didn't really notice anything except a slightly noisier valvetrain.  There might have been some slight change, but not enough to really feel.

But Joe might have a different opinion because he doesn't drive a SN-95!  Wink

You may need to modify the baffles in the valve covers.
