I understand the rotor sets can be purchased, to save money over the price of a whole oil pump.  I took mine apart and noticed it embedded a chunk of something very hard (I never did find out what).  The distributor shaft works fine and doesn't look any different, but I will change it anyway.

Is there a good aftermarket company I should shoot for, or one I should avoid at all cost?  I'd like to avoid shelling out way too much money at a dealership.  Thanks in advance.

I would not think that those parts would be too expensive even at the dealer.  I have what is called a wholesale taxable account at our dealer.  It's not a charge account and I pay tax on it in other words, but I do get the wholesale price.  I had to ask the counter guys how to get the best price and it makes buying my stuff there comparable to other parts houses.

DSSRacing.com may carry that part.  Or, try Edelbrock.

Thanks, Chris.  Part of the reason for looking at 'outside' sources, is the fact that Ford doesn't actually make these parts anymore.  Like everyone else, they buy them.

Now, I find out that there's only ONE American company making oil pumps; Melling (which happens to be six companies).

Detroit area auto parts stores are charging SHIPPING on top of everything else, if they have to order the gear parts.  With the price of shipping, the gears kit is only $3 shy of the whole pump assembly (that is readily available on the shelf).

This is crap!  I remember when all the automotive companies used to make their own parts, or buy them from twelve different suppliers.  Not any more!  Now, our parts are made in Taiwan or China.

Old Man Ford is ROLLING in his grave!  I won't be a bit surprised when Ford Motor Company announces they are moving World Headquarters to some foreign country.  They've sold or spun-off just about everything here.  Ford tore down the Dearborn Assembly Plant, and moved Mustang assembly to Auto Alliance, a joint venture with Mazda.

Thanks for the DSSR link, but they want:
224-41143        351W standard volume oil pump  $50.00   Melling wants $40 for their pump.
224-41143V**  351W hi-volume oil pump             $60.00
M-6605-A341    351W HD oil pump drive shaft       $24.95  I just bought a Cleveite for $6.31.

Edelbrock carries fuel and water pumps, but no oil pumps.
