Gears, cat-back exhaust, chip, remove air silencer and throw in a K&N filter. (150 gear, 200 install, 300 exhaust, and probably 400-500 chip, 50-75 filter)
You'll get tons of pickup with the gear, good amount of HP with the exhaust, maybe 10hp with the filter, and a definite boost across the board with a chip. On street tires you'd easily break into high 13's with some good driving.

It's NITROUS! I didn't think about the mid-pipe. You could always say screw the chip, but a chip is a good idea if you have larger plans for down the road (blower, heads, cams, etc). But a mid-pipe is a fantastic idea.

A chip's only worth it's price tag once you get up to heads and cams.

Mid pipe is the h-pipe or x-pipe. The air silencer is attached the air filter housing.

I'd go with gears and exhaust.. once you get some time behind the wheel and get to know the car and your driving then I would go blown.. but rememebr.. these car's aren't toys, and they CAN and WILL kill you... so if you are going to go light to light, of race on the freeway.. do it whn there are little or no cars on the road.. the worst part of street racing is killing someone else.

yeah, i am safe when we do it, actually here the cops dedicate certain spots for it, you pay a small fee. the police block certain park of the roads late at night. they figure better to make money and make it as safe as possible then try to fight it.

Hmm you were in a nice part of Detroit then. I don't think that time I was racing my friend and a cop pulled out in front of me while I was in 3rd gear at about 70-80 he was looking to race me. Well okay MAYBE he wanted to. But I was already going 80 and he gave up.

Hey bro! Gears, either 3.90 or 4.10's and find a good shop to do those...done wrong they can be VERY annoying. If you haven't figured out how to remove the air silencer, I can help you with that. You can even have my left-over K&N filter if it will fit your 99. You can take a look at http://www.allfordmustangs.com/Detailed/49.shtmlAside from the blower on my car, the most best improvement I found was a Mac Prochamber (H-pipe). this is the part of the exhaust that houses your 6, yes 6 catalytic converters. It gives you a larger crossover area and removes the converters. They are illegal in most places, so if you go that route, be careful and if you have annual inspections like here in VA, make sure you "know a guy". I wouldn't fool with a chip until you need it. When you do, the SCT Excalibrator if a fine product and Ken at moddepot is a great help. http://www.modulardepot.com/product_info.php?cPath=21_47&products_id=82Look for some Eibach springs to fix the jacked up look all mustangs seem to have. I gotta run to class, I'll get back with some more ideas. see ya!

I'm assuming you have a completely stock '99 GT... #1 - Aftermarket shifter. All the mods in the world won't save your ass on a good missed 2nd gear crunch. After the shifter and you know how to shift well, i'd open up the intake side first. Reason being - it's easier than the exhaust, it'll get you used to putting crap on your car, it doesn't cost much, and it's relatively cheap. Don't just get the filter, get a whole kit, without the MAF. Densecharger makes a high quality kit for cheap. WMS makes the best, IMO, but you'll pay out the ass for one. www.wmsracing.com. JLT also makes a good one, but i'm not sure it's for GT's. A midpipe will make the car sound better and you'll pick up the biggest exhaust gains with this piece. Mufflers really don't add horsepower at your level, but it'll make the exhaust sound all the more better. X-pipe's have a different sound than H-Pipes. Offroad H or X means there's no catalytic convertors. Less weight, more power, generally louder. You will need MIL's (check engine light will be on due to no catalytic convertors being detected in the rear. the light will NOT retard timing or decrease power in any way) with an offroad pipe. Underdrive pullies are cheap and a great bolt-on. I do not suggest the "piggyback" type, but rather a quality set from Steeda or ASP. Steeda's are cheaper and just as good from what i've read over the years. Gears are expensive, but well worth it. I suggest 3.73 - 4.10 for a 99+ 2v GT. Take a ride in one or the other and see which one you like more. 4.10's give a better kick in the ass, especially off the line, but turn a higher RPM on the freeway. On second thought, if you're going for speed/acceleration, i'd go with the 4.10's. Stickier tires will help you out on the launch, I recommend the Nitto 555R Drag Radial if it's not a daily driver. If you have to drive the car and it rains a lot where you are, i'd hold off on the drag radials. They have a tendancy to hydroplane. Hold off on the chip until you can afford to get the car dyno tuned by a competant tuner and have all of your mods on the car. I consider the chip the frosting.. It ties everything else together and you should get stock drivability with a good tune.

I just looked up the filters for your 99 and it looks like a different model than I had in my 97. It probably wouldn't fit correctly. If you find out otherwise, let me know. If you can head this way for that Mustang event this summer I'll give it to you then. I was thinking, you mentioned going to 9" front wheels. If you do and our wheels match, when Gordon Levy sends me the replacement Cobra R's for the front, we can swap 2 for 2...and I'd throw some cash into it as well. Let me know. As far as shifters go, I always heard good things about a Pro 5.0 shifter with a Tri-Ax handle. I had a Kirban (Mac) shifter for a while but I liked the factory one better and went back to stock. The blower is a good idea if you don't mind the gas prices right now. Also, plan on doing the blower right if you go that route. That means about $3000 plus a few bucks here and there when you install. Then you have to throw away those brakes. That much power with the stock brake system isn't wise. I'll let you know how the wilwoods are when dad and I can get the time to install them.

one more thing. Don't waste money on a cat-back. They sound nice sometimes, but if you want power they don't net much for what they cost. The stock mufflers flow plenty well for what our motors are going to throw at it. One definite drawback to a loud exhaust is that you draw attention. Attention = tickets = no mustang = If you want, I can post a sound file of my car with the catylitic converters deleted... not that I suggest breaking the law with an illegal exhaust. of course, you could always find an old (pre cat converter) 427 side-oiler block and build that up to bypass the law that requires cats

Nitrous is certainly an affordable option. Good in a pinch, but it can be a hassle. Like that great remote control car you have when you are a kid that runs out of batteries after a few minutes.
I say work on the handeling now and save for some power later.

I just got a Vortech S-trim off ebay for 1500, but it may be junk, so I suggest the same as everyone else, gears, and suspension. I'm not from Detroit, I'm from Muskegon, but I believe we were in Highland Park? I'm not sure, its all Detroit to me, it was in 1999 in my college days, I know it was an industrial park, and eventually they did send everyone away for the night. I also grew up with someone who turned out to be a cop later on, he's never tried to impound my car, I've never pushed him either, but going 120+ at 3 a.m. didnt really faze him much, just told me to take it to the country. And it is very common for police to look the other way on things that dont really hurt anyone, like telling you to throw your roach away
