Just wonder what personal experience has been with compression ratio and iron heads. i know you can run about a point higher C.R. with aluminum heads, as they disapate heat faster. I'm contemplating an "iron" head with .200 dome pistons. Anyone have any suggestions. I want to keep it 93 octane. I have a couple sets of aftermarket heads to my demise. I just think it would be cool to run the irons for s***s and giggles, since no one does anymore. Read, I'm not saying stock iron heads, but some other kind of iron heads....lol.

Guessing N/A, since you normally want to lower compression with a power adder...

Yeah there is alot of factors like my 331 is a blower motor with a little under 9.5.1 which is higher for boost but I do not plan on running more than 10 Lbs of boost, so I am gaining a little more power with compression then having to run high boost for the same effect

static compression is less important than dynamic compression ratio (DCR), which is determined by the cam to be used. you can run higher ratios if you use a larger duration cam to tame the DCR.

That's a point I tried to make last night but then ran into technical difficulties posting. I see my post didn't make it.
Cam timing has a more significant affect on what compression you can run than many people would think. As T-moss said cam timing will enable you to run more compression, but then you have to consider how much duration you want as far as the affect that it will also have on your engine performance (power band RPM, vacuum, idle, etc.).
For those going with forced induction you cannot go too far with duration or else you risk blowing air and gas out the exhaust.

Steve Hmmm what do you think of 230/236 duration on a blower motor?

Well it was gonna be N/A. I tore the short block down last night and I got hosed.... The 5K DSS shortblock I bought has three crack cylinders, 30 over mains and 20 over rods......It is going back to the guy I got it from. So once again. 4th change of motor plans in the last month..... Maybe i should say screw the mustangs and stick with the new trend in Hot rods and street cars.....

Buy a low mileage Explorer engine and use it as-is or build it!

I would, but I have two good stock shortblocks in the garage, but got a "GREAT SCREAMING< TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE" deal on this motor. I wanted the compression, botton end reinforcement that this offered and didn't want to screw with a machine shop rebuild. I wanted something that could be thrown in the car for the fourth of july weekend. I've got the other motors to "build". I just didn't have the time right now, and didn't want to bend over and take it straight from DSS, so i bought a used on and still got bent over..lol Looks like the stock motor will be going back in for now.... Dan, will go if the car is done....I will PM you later...busy guy here...

Yep. Coming back from SC and taking some R&R time, class on Thursday and then I'm staying at Michelle's for the weekend. Gonna hit up Cedar Point too hopefully.

Jerry does not want men hitting on Michelle, which is why you can't stay there. But, since Dan is Gay, Jerry may enjoy getting the attention.. Jerry may be switching teams.... Post up plans for the Friday evening in the Events section here.... Saturday, I am planning for FFW, but I have to work Friday until about 4.
