Heater:
The heater core
could
be bad, but I check the hoses first.
A/C:
It could be many things, compressor, no charge, etc. I would have it checked out.

What is this "wet stuff"? If it's antifreeze, then your heater core is leaking. What kind did you put in last time? If it wasn't a Ford piece, that would explain it.
So the air isn't working at all? Does the compressor engage at all while driving/idling?

make sure the heater core isn't blocked up, 2 check connections of it
A/C first make sure the Compressor is engaging, if not, use a set of A/C guages what year is this car make sure you find the right set of A/C guages to check pressures R12 and R134a have different quick connects, if your compressor rapidly engages, if it cycles fast, could mean that you are low on Freon, your Oricifce tube is clogged, air in the system, also run a dye in your A/C system to see if you have any leaks. R12 is hard to come by, if you have access to a refrigerant sniffer use that too to make sure your refriderant is pure and not mixed, a very common problem is people mix R12 and 134a they are not compatible and will damage your compressor.

yeah that clicking you hear is the electro magnet engaging the clutch sound and you should see it working, when you buy a new compressor make sure there is some oil in it, some come prefilled if not you might want to get some A/C oil for R12 systems. try not to expose that oil to the air for long for it will draw in the moisture.
