Can you give us more details about the noise? Are you sure it's coming from the starter?

Swapping the starter is very easy and could be a good place for you to start. Grin

..it wasnt making a ticking sound it was more like grinding..like if something was spinning but wasnt catching.. its weird because my car started this morning.!it hasnt started in days.not sure why.the weather was s***ty for the last 4 days.dont know if that has anything to do with it.i had four mustangs and i never herd this kind of sound.so im trying to look in more what it can be so i can replace the part or parts. thanks for your time...

The starter might not be catching the flywheel. You could take the starter off and bench test it, to make sure it's working correctly. Smiley

I've always read if you have a friend whack the starter with a hammer while you start it and it starts, then it's a good sign your starter's shot. I dunno, could be false, but I remember reading it. Could be worth a try.
