D1AE-6015-DA

D = 1970's
1 = 1971
A = Galaxie
E = Engine

6015 = Basic part number

DA = Revision number. Ford starts with A, then goes to AA after it runs out of alphabet.

I dunno about the 12.

A '71 Galaxie could be a few different engines.

240, 302, 351, 390, 400, and 429.

The 351 could either be a 351W or a 351C, the 400 is a tall-deck 351C, so it looks very similar. The 390 and 429 are bigblocks, easy to distinguish.

Count the bolts on the valvecovers. If it's 6, it's a 302 or 351W. If it's 7, its a 390. If it's 8, its a 351C or 400.

The block is taller on the 351. If you look at the timing cover, where the water inlet passages are, there should be a good inch between that and teh deck. On a 302, it is flush.

Measure the diameter of the mains.  3" = 351W.

Measure across the lifter valley, 9.5" = 351W.
