I got a problem with my 4 cyl 1987 Ford Mustang. I accidentally ran it out of gas and it wont start now. It did start for about a mile but it didn`t even make it to the next exit.  Banging head on wall Banging head on wall Banging head on wall Banging head on wall I am going to try to check the fuel pressure and try to get a diaode to see if the injectors are pulsing. I hope it is not the fuel pump, but if thats what I gotta fix. That is what I will fix. Rhank you for your time.

Do you hear the fuel pump prime? (turn the key but don't start the engine)

First off, replace the fuel filter. It's an in-line filter so you don't have to worry about dropping the tank, yet.

Bang on the tank a few times. Burning up pumps from running with little to no gas is something I see all the time.  If it primes after you beat on the tank just remember you're on borrowed time.

After my dads strut broke into 3 pieces on his 1995 Olds 98. I sent my stang to the local mechanic, they replaced the ignition module and found a short in my wiring harness do to an improperly installed alarm by the previous owner. I am just happy it is up and running. Before i had sent it out. I had replaced the fuel filter and I could hear the pump coming on after I had added about $10 in gas at $3.45 a gallon. After the module and the harness repair, it runs great. Thank you for your time and advise.

Glad you hear you got it up and running. It would have been a bit hard to find the short in the wiring harness over the internet. Wink
