Question: Too much clutch cable slack. I just replaced the clutch, clutch cable and clutch fork in my 87 Mustang GT. I have noticed there's way too much slack in the cable. The cable is non adjustable but I do have a firewall adjustment which is turned all the way

Too much clutch cable slack. I just replaced the clutch, clutch cable and clutch fork in my 87 Mustang GT. I have noticed there's way too much slack in the cable. The cable is non adjustable but I do have a firewall adjustment which is turned all the way out. It takes up a little of the slack but what about the rest? Thanks

Have you tried adjusting the cable?

What's the make of the cable? Some of the lesser ones are complete crap.

I tried adjusting the cable via firewall adjuster.
The cable and clutch are both from Ford Racing.

Just out of curiosity, why was the stock cable replaced? And I'm guessing you routed the new cable in the same way, correct? What kind of FWA do you have?

I used this site when I replaced my FWA and quadrant; it might have something useful for you.

Thank you for all the help thus far!
The cacble was replaced because it has 100,000 miles on it and since I had it disconnected from the fork I figured now would be the time to replace it.
I am using a Jegs' quadrant and a BBK FW adjuster.

Did you perhaps accidentally get a cable for a 94-98 or 99+ instead of your year Mustang?

Also, I'm a bit confused with the poll and it's options. Did you the whole cable?

Thank you everyone for your help!
I thought about the Jegs quadrant being goofed. I'm going to replace it with one from Ford Racing since the cable, clutch and fork are all from FR. Also, the quad from FR has a larger radius which should take up some cable slack. Thank's again!

Doesn't the stock pedal/quadrant or whatever take up slack when you lift UP on it?  It's been a while.

Are you sure you got the cable into the right detent on the quadrant? Some have more then one detent on them, if you got it on the second one you'll have a lot of slop in it that the firewall adjuster can't fix.
