The current engine in my daily driver 90LX is getting to the point I'm going to need to replace it soon, low oil pressure, bad noises on startup, oil use and so on. It's a stock shortblock, w/ported Edelbrock heads, ported GT40 intake and longtube headers. It currently has a TFS1 cam that works OK, but I know I can do better mileage wise with a smaller cam. I'm using engine analyzer to figure out the best engine combination for it and on the program the stock cam gives up about 15-20 HP/TQ at the top of the RPM range but the stocker is up about 40-50 where most driving is done. I've modeled a cam using some comp cams lobes to make one that will significantly better the TFS in the lower RPM range and also the upper. This one is only down about 10-15 HP/TQ on the stocker in the lower ranges.
My question is has anyone used a stock cam with aftermarket heads intake and supporting equipment? if so how well did it work?

Thanks,

I've decided to go with a grind to my specs. After doing some reading on it the stock cams are kind of hit or miss sue the variances between them.

I've never know anyone to have a stock cam with heads and intake.

I have the TFS1 cam aswell and I actually kinda like it.  What's the specs on the new cam?

I don't remember the lift exactly but they are XFI lobes, 214/212 .555/545(or thereabouts) 112 LSA

On my car I was using the stock cam with Edelbrock heads and my Cobra upper and lower, and with the S-trim it made 417/433. It was a perfect daily driver.

I've heard they work well with a blower, but that's not something I'm going to have.
