What would be a resonable HP to achieve with emissions legal 306ci with no power adders? I'm doing a little homework for future project. The car is not a daily driver but it's not a drag or show car either. Does anyone know if a car is a certain age is it exempt from emissions? Or if it's post 1972 will it always have to have emissions equip. if it's a street car? Thanks

I agree with hrtatack1, you can reach your HP goal and still have an emissions legal setup.

Sorry I wasn't clear with my post....What's the most horsepower that could reasonably be expected from a 306 cubic inch emissions legal motor? Thanks

That's a reasonable goal.

I think the law is 10 years and a car isnt required to pass emissions. Oh yea 300+ HP is achievable Nice set of aluminum heads(AFR of Trickflow Twisted Wedge) Nice custom Cam( Anderson, Comp) and Intake ( Your Choice) I personally liked the RPM II and the GT-40
Good luck and post some numbers when your all done

It varies from state to state. In NJ, it's 25 years for it to be registered as a classic/antique, and become smog exempt. I agree that 1HP per cubic inch is easily attainable with today's technology.

WRONG!!!!!! you can also register your car as a collector car, and be exempt from everything... the only thing that needs to work is your speedo.

Well luckily Here in Michigan we dont have emissions and for your car to registered under collector car it has to be at least 25yrs old and the driver has to be at least 30

WRONG!!!!!! you can also register your car as a collector car, and be exempt from everything... the only thing that needs to work is your speedo. Please show me where, I'm having trouble finding it. All I find is Historic/Street Rod stuff. Historic plates cost $41. Any motor vehicle at least 25 years old, owned as a collector's item and only used for exhibition and educational purposes by the owner qualify for this plate. Two (2) color photographs of the vehicle must be included with your application for historic vehicle registration. One (1) should be a front view and the other should be a side view (right or left) with a copy of your vehicle's New Jersey title. They come personalized as well and the fee is $91.
Owners of a modified antique automobile manufactured before 1949 registered in a New Jersey street rod club, an affiliate of the National Street Rod Association, Inc. may apply for a Street Rod plate that costs $15. Call MVC at 609.292.6500 or (toll free in NJ) 888.486.3339 to request an application. http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/cit_plates/specalh.htm
