Looks absolutely awesome!   I'm really impressed!

Where did you get all the stuff, like the arm rests?   I don't need a color change, just new stuff!

My interior was in really good shape to begin with, just horrible color...

I bought the carpet and dyes from mustang resto...Then the door panels I redone in black suede instead of carpet and map pockets.

The door armrests are the factory installed ones, just dyed.

You dyed all the interior plastic, like the console too?

If so, that may freshen up alot of the age mine is showing.

When this thread has played its course, you should get it moved to the Fox forum, so it doesn't get deleted later on with a DB purge.

Too valuable of information.  I'll need this later on.    Wink

Ya...I had hours and hours of prep...But thats the key...I have had a few buddies of mine do this and prepped well and they all still look perfect.  It cost me about $120 in dyes to do everything...Thats every single panel from red to black.  Like 5-7 coats on each piece.

I did not get any of their primer or prep cans...

I washed all the panels down with hot water and soap.  Then I used a sos/scuff pad and scuffed up the panels well.  I then got a gallon of laquer thinner and some shop rags and wiped them all down while wearing gloves(so hand oil doesnt get on the panels).  I then let them sit and dry for a little while.  Then had them all spread around and started the light coats.  I let each coat dry at least 4 hours, if not overnight.

You will use 2-3 cans for the door panel vinyl and 8-9 cans for the rest of the interior panels.  Its better to get 3 for door and 9 for interior that way the cans will more then likely come from the same batch.  I have heard of a few people upset because they ordered cans at different times and the shades are a hair off.

All the parts with grooves like the door seals and speaker grills, I put in the bathtub and scrubbed with a brush to get them clean.

I will let you know if I run into any problems.  Like I said, a few other friends of mine have done this with great success.  Just so you prep well you should be ok.

Me too.  That's the most important thing for me.

I did an old Chevy truck once, but I obviously did it wrong, and had the flaking a little while after.

nice work on the painting.  I will be completing the same task in the next few months..  Thankfully, I can use a buddy's garage to paint everything...

What kind of paint is used (not brand, but type of paint)?  In your opinion, would it be possible to purchase similar paint and shoot it with a gun and compressor instead of spray can?

I am sure it would be possible.  I will look around for a couple days to see if I can find any paint like that.  Most of these paints are made to give and be flexible so they dont scratch/flake easily.  Thats why its really important to use the vinyl on the door panels.

Just wondering how the interior is holding up?  Did you also paint the steering wheel and the vents?  Your car looks great, I think I will be doing this over the winter.  Thanks!
