1989-1993 Mustangs
For the most part, these are fairly easy. If you mustang was equipped with a V8 and a 5 speed manual transmission from the factory, your computer code will be A9L. If your mustang was a V8 automatic from the factory, the computer code is A9P. If your mustang had a transmission swap or engine swap done since new, or if you did a mass air conversion, you will have to get the actual code off the computer. To do this, you simply remove the passenger side door sill plate by removing the 4 phillips head screws. You then remove the kick panel by pulling from the bottom and you will be able to see the computer and read the code off of it.

1994-1998 Mustangs
The computer code for these years is also located on the computer itself. You will need to lift up on the passenger door sill plate. It is held on by 4 clips and if you pull on it hard enough the clips will release and the door sill plate will come off. Next, you remove the kick panel. There is a small press in clip visible on the outside of the panel. Place your fingers behind the clip on the panel and pull outward. The clip will release and the panel will come off. The computer will be visible behind 3 groups of wires. The code will be the largest 4 digit alpha-numeric number on the computer.

1999-2004 Mustangs
There is a decal on the passenger side door of 99-04 mustangs that lists the computer code in addition to the code on the computer itself. The code will be all by itself on a white decal near the door latch on the passenger side door. If you can not find the decal on the passenger door, the computer code is located in the same place as the 94-98 mustangs.

2005 - Current Mustangs
Starting in 2005, Ford moved the computer out of the kick panel and located it on the passenger side of the engine compartment. It is easy to spot as soon as you open the hood by looking in the front left corner of the engine bay. Ford put a white decal on the computer with the code making it very easy to find. If the white decal has been removed or has fallen off, the computer will have to be unbolted and the code is right on the computer like the earlier years.
